Giving an equal voice to same-sex marriages has always been important, and Facebook has just taken an important step in that direction. From now on, gay couples will be able to announce their marriages straight from Facebook, thanks to new icons that recognize this natively. One would remember that Facebook added support for gay and lesbian relationships in 2011 by providing status options of “In a Civil Union” and “In a Domestic Partnership”.

This falls in line with the global trend of greater inclusion for gay, lesbian and transgender (LGBT) people. However, there is a lot more to be done.
