Digital Marketing Updates October

1. Creators Are Invited to Participate in Threads’ New Communities Element

Digital Marketing Updates October

Threads is experimenting with a new Communities feature, inviting select creators to join topical group discussions inside the app. Posts in these communities are surfaced both in dedicated feeds and users’ main “For You” streams, and joining a community tags that topic as an interest in one’s profile.

2. YouTube Users Can Use AI to Create Different Short Story Endings

YouTube has introduced a new AI feature for Shorts called “Extend with AI”, which lets creators generate alternative endings to existing Shorts. Users select a moment from a Short, pick a suggested prompt, and the AI generates a new segment that becomes a new Short. This lets anyone remix content into fresh versions, with attribution to the original creator, potentially expanding reach and creative possibilities.

3. WhatsApp Updates, Including AI-Generated Backgrounds, are outlined by Meta.

WhatsApp is rolling out a major update that adds Meta AI-powered chat themes, document sharing, and video call backgrounds. Users can now create custom visual themes based on text prompts, share Live and Motion Photos, and scan documents directly on Android. The update also makes group chat search smarter and introduces new sticker packs.

4. More Lodging Listings With Inaccurate Prices Will Be Removed by Google

Google is cracking down on lodging listings with inaccurate pricing, removing those that consistently display misleading rates in both ads and free booking links. They’re raising the bar for price accuracy to rebuild trust and improve user experience. Partners with lower accuracy may lose visibility, while those with reliable pricing could see traffic gains.

5. Google Tests Shopping Ads Carousel Progress Bar

Google is testing a new blue progress bar under Shopping Ads carousels in search results. As users scroll through the carousel, the bar indicates how many items remain visible.

6. The Google Search Emoji Answer Box is now available.

Google has officially launched a new feature in its search results that displays emoji options directly in the search box for related queries. This update allows users to copy emojis instantly without visiting third-party websites. For example, searching for “crying emoji” now presents a selection of relevant emojis at the top of the search results page.

7. Microsoft Tests Big Images for Copilot Ads in Bing Search

Microsoft is testing very large images in Bing Search Copilot ads, a format not previously seen in this ad unit. The experiment aims to enhance visual engagement within Copilot Search results.

8. YouTube Offers a Sneak Peek at Its Next Likeness Detection Tool

YouTube is rolling out a new ‘likeness detection’ tool where you upload your face-scan and ID, and it then flags videos using your image (or deepfake versions of it). You can review and request removal of those clips.

9. Sitelinks are now supported by Google Local Search Ads on Google Maps.

Google Ads just launched sitelinks in the Google Maps ad space, meaning now your local search ads can feature clickable links to specific pages. It’s live for Search and PMax campaigns, and you’ll need at least two sitelinks (desktop or mobile) to make it show.

10. Google Local Hotel Listings with Email-Based Price Tracking

Google has made hotel hunting a bit easier! They’re testing a new option that lets you track hotel price drops right from local search results. Once you toggle the alert, Google will email you updates whenever the price changes.

11. Google adds QR Code Button on Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile is testing a cool new “Get QR Code” button right in your search profile. Once clicked, you’ll instantly grab a unique QR for your listing. It’s still in trial mode, but could be a smart shortcut for shareable business links.

12. Bing Copilot now Provides Animated responses

Microsoft’s Bing Copilot is trying something new; it’s now testing animated answers! Instead of showing the full reply instantly, Copilot reveals the text as if it’s being typed in real time. To make responses feel more natural, human, and engaging, much like chatting with a real person instead of a search box.

13. Instagram Adds Reel Watch History

Instagram is rolling out a new Watch History feature for Reels. Users can now view thumbnails of videos they’ve watched in the past 30 days, filter by date or account, and find clips they couldn’t locate before.

14. Threads Introduces Disappearing Ghost Posts

Threads just dropped a cool new feature: Ghost Posts. These temporary updates disappear from public view after 24 hours but still stay in your archive. They can’t include images, won’t go to the Fediverse, and only you see replies in your inbox. The fun part is everytime you like a ghost post a little ghost appears instead.

15. YouTube Updates CTV Displays with AI Upscaling

YouTube is rolling out a load of updates for connected TV (CTV) creators like bigger thumbnails (2 MB to 50 MB), immersive auto-playing channel headers, interactive shopping QR codes and AI upscaling of lower-res videos for TV screens.

16. WhatsApp Enhances Chat Backup Passkey Security

WhatsApp is rolling out passkey-encrypted backups so instead of relying on a long password, you can use fingerprint, face ID or screen lock to protect your chat backups. It keeps your login info on your device and strengthens your privacy.

17. Google Ads Introduces New Investment Strategy on Recommendation Page

Google Ads has rolled out a new “Investment Strategy” tab in the Recommendations area. It models how increasing your budget could impact key metrics like clicks or conversions, and shows which campaigns to boost and by how much. While it focuses on short-term weekly changes, it gives a handy snapshot for smarter spend decisions.

18. Google Local Service Ads Experiments Reviews & Overview Buttons

Google is testing new buttons on its Local Service Ads: “Reviews” (leading to customer feedback) and “Overview” (taking you to the business listing) next to the usual call/message buttons. When you click either, the listing opens with the message feature highlighted, showing how quickly the business typically replies.

19. Bing Search Includes a Region/Country Selector

Bing has introduced a country/region selector so you can change the region under which you’re seeing search results. At the moment it’s still in testing and not visible everywhere yet.
